I happened to leave the coconut liners in my flower boxes last fall. When all the little songbirds came back a few weeks ago, they were loving the fibers from the planters to repair their nests. I think my address was on the “Songbird Newsletter” as I’d watch their numbers grow everyday! Surprisingly, they were kind enough to leave plenty of material for me to use for my own plantings soon. I was inspired to add impatiens and vines from last year’s planter because the patches of snow I was seeing them root through was just a little too depressing for a May painting!
